Local Outreach
After years of public presentations, public notifications for public hearings, and receiving comments at the local and state level since 2018, Cranberry Point Energy Storage received the final permits needed in 2023.
Since 2018, several presentations have been made to the Carver Conservation Commission and Planning Board. In March 2019, the Planning Board voted 4-1 in support of Cranberry Point and the current 2021 Planning Board voted unanimously to extend the validity of the Site Plan and Special Permit to March 31, 2023. Additionally, the Planning Board voted to approve the Minor Modification Application submitted by Plus Power in June 2021. Plus Power has also presented to the Carver Conservation Commission, hosted the 2021 Planning Board and Town Administrator for a site visit, shared its plans with area elected officials, and hosted a July 13, 2021 meeting for abutting neighbors.
In May 2023, the Carver Planning Board voted 3-2 to extend the validity of the Site Plan and Special Permit to May 2024. Also in May 2023, the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) transitioned for approval the permit application for Cranberry Point Energy Storage to the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU). In June 2023, the Massachusetts DPU issued an order approving the project. A notice of the commencement of construction was sent to abutters, and the project website was updated to identify the start of construction.
Operation of the facility is anticipated to commence in early to mid-2025, allowing Cranberry Point Energy Storage to initiate support of the local electric grid.
Community Benefits
Cranberry Point will be a good neighbor and a valuable asset to the surrounding community for decades to come. The project will provide necessary capacity to the Commonwealth with no air-polluting emissions. As a static facility located over 800 feet off of Main Street, with insignificant traffic and minimal municipal services, Cranberry Point will have little impact on adjacent properties. Significant project benefits to the community include:
High-paying construction jobs
Enhanced electrical grid resiliency from a new, state-of-the-art power resource
Expanded property tax base for the local district
