Project Overview
Plus Power is developing a 150 MW / 300 MWh state-of-the-art battery storage system that will provide clean firm capacity to the New England grid and additional energy and grid services. The facility will enhance grid reliability and accelerate the integration of readily available renewable energy. Cranberry Point received approval from the Town of Carver’s Planning Board and Conservation Commission in March 2019. Construction of the Cranberry Point Energy Storage facility commenced in December 2023.
The completion of the Cranberry Point Energy Storage project in 2025 will contribute to Independent System Operator of New England (ISONE)’s reliability needs, as well as to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ goals of 40% renewable energy generation by 2030 and 1000 MWh of energy storage by 2025. The facility is a standalone energy storage project, not co-located with solar or other generation.
The Cranberry Point project has been in development since 2017 and is focused on helping the community and state meet its climate protection and energy reliability goals. Situated near existing electrical infrastructure, the project is not sited within a flood plain, on wetlands or current or historical cranberry bogs, nor in pine barrens. The Cranberry Point project site is an optimal location for new energy infrastructure.
